Biography February 7th 1921 - March 1st 1982 (Died at 61):
This is what I can say about him: He was a great man in more ways than one. He was always nice and considerate to others, almost caring if you will. I think that even though he was rich he never showed it. One of his virtues was being very simple in his tastes and wants. I remember him giving out toothbrushes to his workers one Christmas. He liked to Play Bowling and Chess. He loved his Siamese cat ‚"Seiko". There was not a dog that could or would bite him. I think he must have been born with a ‚"dog anesthetic scent" because even the fiercest animal would come tamely to him and submit to a petting. To this day people that knew him tell me kind things about him.
His Biography: He was born back on February 7th 1921 in Klatovy in the protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (Czekoslovaquia) from Josef Reznicek and Herminia Polakova. From November 5th 1942 to November 11th 1948 he worked for Junkers Flugzeug in Dessau, an airplane factory for the Germans. We must remember that Czekoslovaquia was a protectorate of Germany during this time so this kind of work was mandatory. On the 20th of March 1948 he emigrated to Saint-Gilles Brussels as a refugee from the war. The socialist government began (Klement Gotvald entered and he was pro Russian and against Masarik) The factories began getting nationalised at this time. So he sold the factory and bought jewelry which was easier to take with him. They excaped on skis through Shirmava to Germany. There in Germany they (Zdenek and his brother Vlastimil) were caught. (These were the Nuremburg trials times) They thought dad and uncle were Nazi collaborators. This turned out OK when they could show they were not. They were put on the Belgian border where they went to embassies to get political assylum, which they got about 1949 and left for Peru and Finally Bolivia. In Bolivia they started a metal welding and repair shop and eventually the two brothers started making liquors and chemical products in a rented garage in 1950 under license from his own Czech company Reznicek-Klatovy CSR along with Juan Mrazek. They found a book on paints in the library of the local univeristy (UMSA) and Monopol was established on the 8th of May 1950 in La Paz, Bolivia. It is interesting that at this time Vlastimil Reznicek was not yet a partner in the firm. On the 8th of May 1951 Zdenek Reznicek was awarded Bolivian nationalization. In 1954 Zdenek issued a power of attorney into the firm for Vlastimil Reznicek. This seems to indicate Vlastimil's partnerhood by then. On November 30th 1954 he married Milada Durackova in La Paz Bolivia. On September 24th 1955 Zdenek was awarded a permit to reenter the United States as a ‚"nonquota immigrant" with the social security number 546-50-8902 in Los Angeles California. He worked there for a time (about one year) at Tyre Brothers Glas Co, L.A, and then returned to Bolivia. His reasons for emigrating state "difficulty with the leading of my factory in La Paz". Then by 1959 his brother Vlastimil Reznicek and his brother's wife Rita Falkenstein became part of the Monopol company. At this time the factory was located at Prolongacion Sucre 301 in La Paz. On December 23rd 1959
Zdenek and Milada Durackova Reznicek had their first child Denis Jorge Reznicek. Later on January 19th 1961 they had their second child Miguel Jorge Reznicek (me). Notes of the time show they had 17 workers at Monopol by then. By 1962 Berna Mendoza had already been working for Zdenek Reznicek as a maid. This fine lady remained with the family until her death in the late 1980's. On January 8th 1964 Zdenek petitioned for his amateur radio license and from then to the time of his death remained an avid amateur radio operator with the call sign CP1DR. In 1979 he was awarded the category of ‚"E" after his call sign indicating 15 years as a ham radio operator. (CP1DRE) By 1979 Zdenek was sick and ready to retire. He then signed a power of attorney in favor of Vlastimil, Rita and their son Carlos to run the company while he emigrated to Costa Rica. He had also constructed an agreement with Vlastimil to pay him the then enormous amount of U$ 10,000 per month to continue running the company by himself until Denis and Miguel would come back from college in the US and take over his share of the work. On September 4th 1979 Zdenek Reznicek was awarded the category of ‚"Resident Rentist" in Costa Rica and continued to live his retirement there. On April 9th 1981 he was admitted to Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami with the suspicion of Lymphoma (Cancer). There, a computed tomography of the chest and another of the abdomen, reported ‚"unremarkable" results. A few days later, Zdenek decided not to continue with the chemotherapy. The doctors would say that if he didn't continue taking the medication he would die within the month. He said ‚"Living like this isn't living" and decided not to take the medication. Finally on March 1st 1982 at 6:05 am he died in Costa Rica.
